Nero AG is a German software company based in Karlsbad, Germany. The company is best known for its CD and DVD-authoring software package, Nero Burning ROM. In partnership with Ateme corporation, Nero AG develops and markets the Nero Digital suite of MPEG-4 audio & video compression software, and is involved with several other software projects relating to multimedia applications. The company was founded in 1995 by Richard Lesser and was originally known as Ahead Software AG until January 2005, when it adopted its present name due to the vast popularity of Nero Burning ROM.
